Welcome to the 2000 Royal Burgh of Pittenweem Arts Festival. As we move from the 20th into the 21st Century, we have taken the Gates and Doorways as our theme, reflecting not only the transition in time but also the character of the Burgh. During the festival there are always gates and doors opened, inviting you to come in and enjoy paintings, sculptures, tapestries, gardens....
This year there are more than 40 venues open for art - the large number creates problems for the programme as at the time of going to press there are still one or two uncertainties. We will provide information at the start of the Festival if there have been any changes in the exhibitions listed.
The Children's Festival takes a new for this year- a chance for the children to work together each afternoon on a project leading to a performance on Saturday 12th August.
Open Air Painting Competition welcomes participants of all ages, amateur or professional. Competitors must produce a coloured picture of any aspects of Pittenweem, on the spot during the day. The paintings will then be judged and prizes to the value of £250 will be awarded. The competition begins at 9.30am and finishes at 4pm. for information and an entry form please send a stamped addressed envelope to Tim Cockburn, 23 Midshore, Pittenweem, Fife KY10 2NL or phone 01333 310287. The competition is sponsored by the Halcyon Gallery, Anstruther, The Gallery, Cupar and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The Festival opens on Saturday 5th of August with an outdoor Ceilidh down at the harbour.
